Sentinel Fire Protection

Inspection schedule

What's due, and when.

How often each fire system in a commercial building needs a visit, written for the person who gets the call when a tag expires. Use it as the usual baseline. Local code and your fire marshal have the final say.

By system

Four systems, four schedules

Each system runs on its own clock, which is how dates get missed. Here is each one on its own.

NFPA 10

Fire extinguishers

Every month
Visual checkA quick look that each one is where it belongs.
Every year
Maintenance by a certified techThis is the visit that puts the new tag on.
Every 6 years
Internal examFor stored-pressure units.
Periodically
Hydrostatic testingA pressure test of the cylinder. We track the date for each unit.
NFPA 25

Sprinkler systems

Every quarter
ChecksFour short visits a year.
Every year
Full inspectionThe longer visit, once a year.
Every 5 years
Internal pipe inspectionA look inside the pipe itself.
NFPA 72

Fire alarms

Every year
Functional testingThe devices and the panel are tested to show they work.
In between
Periodic visual checksHow often depends on your system and your local code.
NFPA 17A · NFPA 96

Kitchen hood suppression

Every 6 months
Inspection of the suppression systemThe system over the cooking line.
Separately
Hood and duct cleaningCleaning is a separate job from the suppression inspection. Having one done does not cover the other, so keep both on the calendar.

Local code and your fire marshal have the final say. Some cities ask for more than this, and your insurer may too. If your last report says something different, go with the report and ask us why.

The compliance calendar

Every system and due date in one place

This is what a building looks like once it's on our books. You can open it any time. Most clients never need to, because we call first.

Everything gets logged

On the first walkthrough we record each system in the building and when it was last serviced.

Each date goes on the calendar

One line per system. If you manage several buildings, they all sit in the same view.

We book about 30 days ahead

We hold a time and send it to you. Confirm it or ask for another one. You never have to chase us.

The report is filed for you

After each visit the report sits next to its date, ready to send to the fire marshal or your insurer.

When we find a problem

One line per problem, with the price on it

An inspection sometimes turns something up. When it does, the report shows a photo of it, the code section it falls under, and a written price to fix it. Then it waits for you.

  • Approve it and we schedule that repair and nothing else
  • Decline it and it stays on the report as an open item, at no charge
  • Take the report to another vendor if you want it checked
